Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi arrived in the French capital, Paris, on Sunday for an official visit as part of a European tour that also includes Germany.

According to the Prime Minister’s Media Office, al-Zaidi is leading a high-level Iraqi delegation during the tour, which was undertaken at the official invitation of the French and German governments.

The visit forms part of the government’s efforts to strengthen Iraq’s international relations and broaden opportunities for cooperation and partnerships with France and Germany, particularly in the fields of energy, security, transport and other vital sectors.

During the tour, al-Zaidi is scheduled to meet French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to discuss a range of regional and international issues of mutual interest.

The Iraqi prime minister will also lead expanded talks with French and German officials, focusing on ways to strengthen economic partnerships amid ongoing regional and global challenges.

Several memoranda of understanding are also expected to be signed during the visit, covering areas including energy, security, transport, education and culture, with the aim of deepening cooperation and further strengthening bilateral relations.
