One person was killed and three others injured after an Iranian commercial vessel was reportedly struck in the Gulf near Qeshm Island in southern Iran early on Sunday, according to a local official.

Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB, citing Qeshm Governor Amir Teymouri, described the incident as an attack by the “U.S. terrorist enemy”.

Teymouri said the vessel was hit at around 5am local time (01:30 GMT) in waters near Hengam Island and the Shib Deraz coast of Qeshm Island.

No further details were immediately available regarding the vessel or the circumstances surrounding the reported strike.

Separately, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said on Sunday that a vessel transiting the Strait of Hormuz had been struck by an unidentified munition. It said there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
