Iraqi Minister of Justice Dr Khalid Shwani received U.S. Chargé d’Affaires in Baghdad Joshua Harris on Saturday, with the two sides discussing issues of mutual interest, particularly the transfer of foreign prisoners from Syria to Iraq and ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in legal and judicial affairs.

The meeting addressed mechanisms for coordination on the transfer and handling of foreign prisoners within established legal frameworks and procedures, in accordance with Iraqi law and the country’s international obligations.

Harris expressed his appreciation to the Iraqi government and Ministry of Justice for their role in transferring foreign prisoners from Syria to Iraq.

He said the United States was working with its partners to provide the necessary support to Iraq on the issue, contributing to closer cooperation between Baghdad and Washington.
