Kurdistan Region Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani has praised the significant humanitarian and scientific contributions of Dr Hazha Abdullah after she attained the highest scientific rank in the field of cancer research, becoming the first woman in Iraq to achieve the distinction.
Talabani described her achievement as a source of pride and hailed her as an inspiring example for women and those pursuing scientific knowledge.
During a meeting with Dr Hazha Abdullah, attended by the director of Hiwa Cancer Hospital in Sulaymaniyah, Talabani highlighted her pioneering work dating back to 2002, when she helped establish the first cancer department within the Sulaymaniyah Health Directorate. The department later laid the groundwork for the establishment of Hiwa Hospital.
He commended Dr Hazha’s years of dedicated service to patients, saying she had helped restore hope to thousands of patients and their families. He added that her name had become synonymous with trust, hope and perseverance.
Talabani said Dr Hazha’s achievement in becoming the first woman in Iraq to attain the highest scientific rank in cancer specialisation was a matter of pride and honour for Kurds and women in particular.
"Alongside her demanding daily responsibilities treating patients at Hiwa Hospital, her tireless commitment to advancing scientific standards and conducting valuable research sets an inspiring example for women and all those pursuing science," he said.
Talabani expressed his pleasure at meeting Dr Hazha and said he was confident that more outstanding figures like her would continue to emerge.
He extended his warmest congratulations to Dr Hazha, her colleagues and the staff and administration of Hiwa Hospital, expressing his pride in the institution’s exceptional efforts to serve the community.
