The Directorate of Narcotics Affairs in Kirkuk has dismantled an international drug trafficking network and seized 20 kilograms of cannabis during a coordinated security operation.

According to a statement issued by the General Directorate of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Affairs at Iraq's Ministry of Interior, the operation was carried out by the Kirkuk Narcotics Affairs Directorate in cooperation with the relevant authorities in a neighbouring country.

The ministry said the operation followed extensive intelligence gathering, careful surveillance and close security coordination, delivering what it described as a significant blow to international drug trafficking networks.

Authorities said the operation resulted in the seizure of 20kg of cannabis, the dismantling of an international drug trafficking ring, and the disruption of plans to smuggle narcotics and expand the group's criminal activities.

The statement added that the arrests were the culmination of sustained intelligence efforts and continuous monitoring of the network's movements, enabling security forces to identify its operations and apprehend those involved.
