Dana Gas and Crescent Petroleum have announced the start of natural gas supplies from the Khor Mor field in Sulaymaniyah Governorate to power stations operated by Iraq's Ministry of Electricity in Kirkuk Governorate.

In a statement seen by PUKMEDIA on Tuesday, the two companies said the deliveries are being made under an agreement signed with the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity in December last year.

As joint operators of the Kurdistan Gas Project, Dana Gas and Crescent Petroleum will supply 100 million standard cubic feet of natural gas per day (MMscfd) from the Khor Mor gas processing facility to the Taza gas-fired power plant in Kirkuk for an initial one-year period. The companies said the project is expected to increase electricity generation and improve power services across Iraq.

The statement described the first gas deliveries as a major milestone in the companies' strategy to expand gas sales following the completion of the Khor Mor 250 expansion project. The project, which became operational in October 2025, increased the processing facility's production capacity by 50 per cent to 750 MMscfd.

According to the companies, the additional capacity has enabled them to enter new markets and deliver much-needed gas supplies by pipeline from the Khor Mor processing plant in the Kurdistan Region.

Majid Hamid Jaafar, Chief Executive of Crescent Petroleum and Managing Director of Dana Gas, said the first gas deliveries to Iraq's Ministry of Electricity marked an important step in the development of the gas sector in the Kurdistan Region.

He said the project would help meet Iraq's growing demand for electricity while improving public services, and thanked the Kurdistan Regional Government, the local authorities in Sulaymaniyah and the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity for their continued cooperation in bringing the project into operation.

Dana Gas Chief Executive Richard Hall said the agreement demonstrated the benefits of the companies' ongoing expansion programme.

He said the additional production capacity created by the Khor Mor 250 project would provide a platform for further cooperation in Iraq's energy sector, strengthen energy security and support the delivery of more reliable electricity services across the country.
