PUK President Calls for United National Effort on 12th Anniversary of Yazidi Genocide

Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), has issued a statement marking the 12th anniversary of the genocide against the Yazidi community and the occupation of Shingal by the ISIS terrorist organisation, calling for a united national effort to meet the needs of the region and its people.

The full text of President Bafel Jalal Talabani's statement follows:

The occupation of Shingal and the massacre committed against our Yazidi brothers and sisters remain a deep wound that can never be forgotten. Each year on this day, we stand in solidarity with our people and honour, with the utmost respect, the memory of all those who lost their lives.

The efforts made to rebuild Shingal and its surrounding areas, and to compensate those affected, have fallen short of addressing the profound suffering endured by the Yazidi community. We hope this anniversary will encourage all parties to unite their national efforts so that the region and its people receive the level of attention warranted by the scale and brutality of this crime.

The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan remains committed to supporting Shingal. By putting political differences aside and working together, we can help overcome the consequences of this tragedy and offer the people of the region renewed hope for a brighter future."
