Kurdistan Region VP, French CG Discuss Bilateral Relations and New KRG Formation

Kurdistan Region Vice President Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa received on Monday, 6 July 2026,  Yann Braem, the French Consul General to the Kurdistan Region.

The meeting focused on relations between Iraq and the Kurdistan Region with France, with both sides stressing the importance of further strengthening cooperation across a range of sectors.

They also discussed the outstanding issues between Erbil and Baghdad, emphasising the need to continue dialogue and negotiations to resolve differences in accordance with the Iraqi Constitution.

The formation of the new Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) cabinet was another key topic of discussion, with the latest developments and progress in the process reviewed. The two sides also exchanged views on the general situation in the region.
