The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) bloc in the Iraqi Parliament has expressed its gratitude to the people of Halabja Governorate, security forces and emergency teams for their efforts in the search and recovery operation for 11-year-old Ruqaya, who tragically drowned during a family visit to the Hawraman region.
In an official letter addressed to the Governor of Halabja, security personnel, civil defence teams, medical staff and residents of the governorate, the bloc praised the extensive efforts carried out over eight days to locate the child’s body.
Ruqaya had travelled with her family from the city of Karbala to the Hawraman region for tourism when she drowned at Zalm Waterfall. Following an intensive search operation, her body was recovered and returned to her family, allowing her to be laid to rest in her hometown.
The PUK parliamentary bloc said the commitment shown by those involved reflected the highest humanitarian values and demonstrated solidarity beyond regional and social differences.
“Your actions reflect noble character and humanity, proving that human values are above all else,” the message stated.
The bloc also commended the people of Halabja, Khurmal and the wider region for what it described as a dignified humanitarian and national duty, praising their cooperation and dedication throughout the search effort.
On the tragic occasion, the PUK bloc extended its deepest condolences to Ruqaya’s family and to the people of Karbala Province, expressing sympathy for their loss and praying for mercy and peace for the young girl.
The letter concluded by reaffirming the bloc’s appreciation for everyone who participated in the operation and helped bring closure to the bereaved family.
