Deputy Prime Minister Discusses Development and Regional Stability with Spanish Ambassador

Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani met with the Spanish Ambassador to Iraq, Alicia Rico Pérez, to discuss a range of issues of mutual interest.

During the meeting on Tuesday, 9 June 2026, both sides reviewed the development of relations between the Kurdistan Region and Spain, agreeing that there are significant opportunities to further strengthen cooperation, particularly in agriculture, tourism, and culture.

The discussions also covered relations between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad. Both sides stressed that the new Iraqi government should prioritise economic development, with closer coordination and cooperation between the Iraqi Government and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG). They noted that, alongside resolving outstanding issues, joint efforts are needed to boost the economy and improve living standards.

The meeting further included an exchange of views on recent regional developments, with both sides agreeing that regional countries and the international community should work together to end ongoing conflicts and tensions and reach agreements that ensure peace and stability.
