U.S. President Praises Iraq Developments, Says He Is Pleased With Designated Prime Minister

U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed on Saturday that developments in Iraq were “very positive”, expressing his satisfaction with Prime Minister-designate Ali Al-Zaydi.

President Trump told reporters that “what has happened in Iraq during the recent period is very good, and I am pleased with the designated prime minister.”

Iraq's Coordination Framework held a meeting on 27 April 2026 at the Government Palace in Baghdad, during which member parties agreed to nominate Ali al-Zaidi for the post of prime minister. Following the nomination, Iraqi President Nizar Amedi formally tasked him with forming the country’s next government.
