Beijing is preparing to unveil a new “Satellite Town” aimed at turning the Chinese capital into a major hub for the fast-growing commercial space industry.
According to state media, the core area of the project is expected to be completed in the second half of 2026.
Commercial launches now account for over 60% of all space launches and a number of companies are rushing to go public, Beijing Daily said.
The development will bring together satellite manufacturers, operators, and technology firms in one dedicated zone, designed to streamline innovation and production, Reuters reported.
Reuters cited Gao Yibin, head of the Strategic Research Department at Future Aerospace, as saying that with the acceleration of launch approvals, the localisation of components and the continued injection of capital by industrial funds, China's trillion-yuan commercial space market is moving towards standardisation and scale
“The accelerated implementation of scenarios such as low-Earth orbit constellation networking, satellite internet, space computing power, and 6G air-space-ground integration suggests sustained growth is expected in 2026,” said Gao.
According to Reuters, the Beijing Satellite Town will provide the support to develop the aerospace industry by fostering industrial clustering and enabling talent, capital and technology to flow efficiently.
The Beijing Satellite Town creates an ecosystem where talent, capital, and advanced technology can interact more efficiently. Officials hope the project will accelerate innovation while strengthening China’s position in the global aerospace race.
