Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region.
Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, extended his congratulations to Nizar Amedi following his election as President of the Republic of Iraq.
Deputy PM Talabani's message to President Amedi read:
On the occasion of the election of Nizar Amedi as President of the Republic of Iraq, I extend to His Excellency my warmest congratulations and best wishes for continued success in fulfilling his national responsibilities.
Mr. Amedi is a highly capable and experienced figure, and a devoted patriot. His tireless work in Baghdad for over two decades, the experience he gained working alongside the late President Mam Jalal and successive presidents, and his strong relationships with various Iraqi political forces all reinforce our confidence in his ability to shoulder this great responsibility.
We are confident that His Excellency will act with wisdom and skill in addressing the challenges facing Iraq, particularly in finding lasting solutions to outstanding issues between the Kurdistan Region and the Federal Government.
We also express our appreciation to the members of the parliament who placed their trust in the President, and we value the support of all friendly and allied parties in achieving this important milestone.
We extend our special thanks to His Excellency former President Dr Abdullatif Jamal Rashid for his principled decision to withdraw his candidacy—an act that reflects a high level of democratic spirit and sets a commendable example in political conduct.
In conclusion, we congratulate Bafel Jalal Talabani and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) on this achievement. We also extend our congratulations to the Iraqi people and the people of Kurdistan, particularly the people of Duhok Governorate, as this marks a historic moment with a figure from the governorate assuming the presidency of the Republic of Iraq.
