Iraqi President Receives PUK President and Kurdistan Region Deputy PM

Iraqi President Nizar Amedi received, on Sunday, 12 April 2026, Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), and Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, at Baghdad Palace.

At the outset of the meeting, which was attended by PUK Political Bureau Member Darbaz Kosrat Rasul, Iraqi Minister of Justice Khalid Shwani, and Iraqi Minister of Environment Dr Halo Askari, the delegation congratulated the President on assuming office, wishing him success in carrying out his national responsibilities, serving the Iraqi people, and strengthening stability in the country.

The meeting reviewed the overall political and security situation in Iraq, as well as regional developments. Discussions emphasised the importance of enhancing cooperation and coordination between the Federal Government and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) to consolidate stability and advance shared interests.

Participants also stressed the need to unify efforts to address current challenges and to support dialogue and mutual understanding among political forces, in order to fulfil the aspirations of the Iraqi people for security, development and stability.
