On Thursday, 2 April 2026, a meeting was held in the city of Ranya, chaired by Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, to discuss preparations for establishing the Regional Development Foundation in the Raparin Administration.
Speaking on the significance of the foundation, Talabani told the media that it forms part of a sustainable, strategic plan aimed at developing areas beyond the major cities, and would position the Raparin Administration as a hub for a new model of economic development.
He added that the foundation brings together professionals with expertise across a range of fields. “Today, we held the first meeting of the foundation’s supervisory board, and we will soon announce the formal establishment of both the foundation and its board. At that point, we will be able to outline its programmes and plans in greater detail,” he said.
Talabani explained that neglecting economic development in districts and sub-districts is both unjust and a loss of genuine opportunities, noting that each area has considerable potential for growth based on its unique characteristics. He added that a specialised team has been working on a regional development project for some time, which has now been launched in the Raparin Administration and is expected to expand to other parts of Kurdistan.
He emphasised that the initiative would support economic prosperity by backing new ventures and small and medium-sized enterprises, strengthening the agriculture and tourism sectors, enhancing professional skills, facilitating access to affordable finance, and opening markets for local products both within Kurdistan and internationally. He also noted that the Region’s youth would be able to secure future employment opportunities through the project, contributing to the wider economic development of their communities and the country.
