The Mosul Heritage Home stands as one of the city’s most prominent cultural landmarks, as it is more than a traditional building, serving as a vibrant space that preserves Mosul’s memory while reflecting its social and human history. 

Today, it has been transformed into a museum and dynamic cultural centre, offering visitors a comprehensive insight into life in old Mosul, including its distinctive architecture and traditional way of living across different periods.

The heritage home contains a rich and diverse collection of heritage artefacts, ranging from antique household items and traditional clothing to examples of local crafts. Its carefully designed interior recreates the atmosphere of historic Mosul homes, allowing visitors to experience the character and detail of the city’s past.

Situated along the banks of the Tigris River, near the Qara Saray Citadel on the right bank of the Old City, the site benefits from a location that enhances its cultural and historical value. It bridges the depth of Mosul’s heritage with the beauty of its surroundings, making it a key destination for visitors and those interested in history and culture.

Beyond its role as a museum, the Mosul Heritage House functions as an active cultural and social hub. It hosts a wide range of events, artistic activities and workshops aimed at raising community awareness, promoting sustainable development, and strengthening cultural identity. It also plays an important role in reconnecting younger generations with their roots and showcasing the richness of Mosul’s heritage to both local and international visitors.

The building was originally constructed in 1995 by Mosul-born engineer Osama Abdulqader Al-Rahim, who designed it in accordance with traditional Mosul architectural styles. Although parts of the house were damaged during the difficult years the city endured, this ultimately led to its restoration and transformation into a cultural project dedicated to preserving Mosul’s identity.

The site was later developed further by Mosul Heritage Manager Ayub Dhunoun, who oversaw its rehabilitation after the Al-Rahim family donated the building. Since then, the Mosul Heritage Home has become a powerful symbol of cultural resilience and a leading example of efforts to preserve heritage and revive the spirit of the city.
