Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), has released a statement on the 35th anniversary of the historic Kurdish uprising, emphasising that the PUK, as the movement’s architect, remains committed to defending the rights of our people.
The following is PUK President's full statement:
On the 35th anniversary of the Kurdish uprising, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all our beloved people. We bow with the deepest respect before the memory of our heroic martyrs, vowing to continue along their path in serving and safeguarding our people and our homeland.
The uprising, which first took root in the cherished city of Ranya, marked a decisive turning point for our nation, and the PUK takes pride in having secured this historic triumph.
As the architects of the uprising, we in the PUK honour all the courageous fighters who sparked this new revolution and remained unwavering in their dedication.
Today, it is our shared responsibility to work collectively—putting aside slogans—to address our challenges, build a unified voice and stance for our people, and establish a government that truly serves its citizens and fulfils their aspirations. I am confident that this is the finest tribute we can pay to our people and to the heroes of the uprising.
During this delicate and tense period in our Region, all our efforts are focused on safeguarding national stability and keeping conflict away from our land.
We salute the souls of the martyrs of the uprising and all those who sacrificed for our people’s freedom, and we honour the steadfast and resilient families they have left behind.
Bafel Jalal Talabani
President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan
