The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Media Centre said on Wednesday, 14 January 2026, that areas including Deir Hafer, Maskana and the Tishrin Dam have been experiencing sustained military escalation since the early hours of the morning, carried out by factions affiliated with the Damascus government.
According to the statement, the escalation involved the use of suicide drones, artillery and mortar fire, with more than 12 locations coming under attack. Among the targeted areas were the villages of Al-Mahshiyah, Sheikh Hassan and Qashla. At the time of reporting, shelling was still ongoing.
The SDF Media Centre stated that the attacks deliberately targeted infrastructure and essential services in Deir Hafer, including a post office and a civilian bakery. These strikes reportedly disrupted basic services, threatened civilian food security, and appeared aimed at paralysing daily life by preventing farmers from accessing their agricultural lands.
The statement also reported that SDF forces successfully repelled an attempted infiltration by Damascus government factions along the Zubayda village axis in the southern countryside of Deir Hafer. The attempted advance failed, forcing the attackers to retreat despite the use of drone support and heavy machine-gun fire.
The SDF held Damascus government factions fully responsible for the escalation and its humanitarian and security consequences. It warned that continued hostilities could lead to a further widening of the conflict, posing serious risks to civilians as well as to vital infrastructure across the region.
