Iraqi President and First Lady Attend Cyprus EU Council Presidency Opening Ceremony

Iraqi President and First Lady with their Cypriot counterparts.

President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid and First Lady Shanaz Ibrahim Ahmed attended the opening ceremony of Cyprus’s presidency of the Council of the European Union on Wednesday, 7 January 2026, following an invitation from their Cypriot counterparts.

They were welcomed by Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides and First Lady Philippa Carsera Christodoulides.

The event brought together numerous heads of state and government, alongside representatives from diplomatic missions and international organisations. Iraq’s participation highlights its commitment to fostering regional and international cooperation.
