Iraq's First Lady Extends Christmas Greetings During Visit to Baghdad’s Armenian Orthodox Church

Iraqi First Lady Shanaz Ibrahim Ahmed at the Armenian Orthodox Church of Saint Mary the Virgin in Baghdad’s Meydan district.
Iraqi First Lady Shanaz Ibrahim Ahmed visited the Armenian Orthodox Church of Saint Mary the Virgin in Baghdad’s Meydan district, in a visit reflecting Iraq’s deep-rooted religious heritage and the enduring values of coexistence and social harmony.
According to a statement by the Iraqi Presidency, the First Lady toured the church and its affiliated places of worship, accompanied by Archimandrite Oshakan Kolkoulian, Primate of the Armenian Orthodox Church in Iraq. She was briefed on the church’s historical background and its significance as one of the oldest churches in the capital, which continues to fulfill its religious and spiritual mission.
The statement added that First Lady Ahmed expressed her pleasure at visiting this venerable religious landmark, where members of Iraq’s Christian community continue to observe their liturgies, masses and prayers. She noted that, beyond its religious role, the church stands as an important historical and cultural monument that embodies the values of peaceful coexistence, mutual respect and harmony among Iraq’s diverse religious and social components.
On the occasion of the approaching Christmas celebrations marking the birth of Jesus Christ, the First Lady extended her warm congratulations to the Primate of the Armenian Orthodox Church in Iraq and to Christians across the country, wishing them joyous holidays filled with peace and happiness. She also expressed her hope that Iraq and the world will continue to enjoy security, stability and lasting peace.
