Galawezh Festival Returns with Global Voices and Cultural Highlights

28th Galawezh International Festival.
The Galawezh Cultural Centre has announced the launch of the 28th Galawezh International Festival in Sulaymaniyah, set to be held at the Talari Hunar Hall from 20–22 November 2025.
This year’s festival, themed “Let Creativity Be for Beauty and Human Values,” will welcome a distinguished group of writers, researchers, and cultural and academic figures from across the Kurdistan Region and from various countries around the world.
Opening Day Programme
The first day’s events will begin on Thursday at 3:00 pm. The opening ceremony will feature official remarks, starting with a speech by Dr Ibtissam Ismail Qadir, President of the Galawezh Centre, followed by an address from the Kurdistan Regional Government.
Highlights of Day One:
International Poetry Readings: Featuring poets from diverse nations and cultural backgrounds, including Kurdish poet Yilmaz Odubashi, Armenian poet Seyran Jalad, Egyptian poet Ahmed al-Shahawy, and Persian poet Abdul Jabbar Kakai.
Awards and Honours: Presentation of the Galawezh Gold Award.
Musical Performance: A musical and vocal segment by the Sulaymaniyah Music Ensemble, featuring renowned artists Nasser Razazi and Ayub Ali.
Accompanying Exhibitions: Opening of a fine art exhibition, along with a multilingual book fair offering titles in Kurdish, Arabic, Persian and English.
The first day will conclude with a screening of the film “Zahwa Sakht va Asman Dour” at Salim Cinema at 8:00 pm.
The festival will continue over the following three days with a full programme of seminars, literary gatherings, and academic discussions.
