Iraq's Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) confirmed that the final election results of the Irai parliamentary elections will be announced only after a formal decision by the Board of Commissioners, following the resolution of all complaints and appeals.
Speaking to PUKMEDIA, IHEC spokesperson Jumana al-Ghalai said: "The Commission has formed committees of specialised legal staff, headed by members of the Board of Commissioners—both judges and advisers—to adjudicate the submitted complaints."
She stressed that “every decision issued by the Board of Commissioners may be appealed before the judiciary within three days of its publication.”
Al-Ghalai added: "The final results will be announced by a decision of the Board. After the appeals process is completed and resolved, the Federal Court will ratify the results." She also confirmed that votes cast for disqualified candidates will be excluded.
IHEC Deputy Spokesperson Nibras Abu Souda told PUKMEDIA that the Commission is currently prioritising the resolution of complaints, in addition to addressing polling stations that failed to transmit their results within the first six hours after the close of voting—results that were supposed to be sent electronically.
She clarified that the preliminary results remain subject to appeals, which are first handled by the Commission and then by the Judicial Authority for Elections.
"The Judicial Authority will announce when all appeals have been completed, and its official notice will be sent to the Commission," she said.
Abu Souda added that once notified, the Commission will forward the final results to the Federal Supreme Court for ratification.
"This process is not tied to a specific timeframe," she noted. "It depends on completing all required stages in sequence."
Iraq’s parliamentary elections were held last week, recording a voter turnout of 55%.
According the IHEC's latest statistics, the total number of complaints filed regarding the parliamentary elections has so far reached 102.
