PUK President: PUK’s Steps Must Be Directed Towards Realisation of Citizens’ Rights

Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), received Rizgar Haji Hama, Head of the party’s Election Bureau, in Dabashan, Sulaymaniyah.
During the meeting, Haji Hama presented the programme and plan of the Election Bureau to President Bafel, reaffirming that, in line with the decisions of the PUK leadership, the bureau’s tasks are being organised in a manner befitting the standing and significance of the PUK.
For his part, President Bafel expressed his appreciation to Haji Hama and the Election Bureau for their commitment in carrying out their responsibilities.
He also provided further guidance on their work and instructed them to implement the PUK’s programme in service of the people, in coordination with all constituencies and party organs, ensuring that the PUK’s messages and steps are directed towards public service and the realisation of citizens’ rights.
The meeting comes as the party is campaigning for the upcoming Iraqi parliamentary elections, scheduled for 11 November 2025.
The PUK is contesting in the elections across several constituencies, presenting its candidates on an independent list numbered 222 in Erbil, Sulaymaniyah (including Halabja), Duhok, Kirkuk, and Diyala. In Nineveh Governorate, the PUK is running as part of the "Nineveh People’s Union Coalition" with list number 281, while in Saladin it is fielding one candidate within the "National Masses Coalition" with list number 240.
Overall, the PUK is entering the elections with 156 candidates: 36 in Sulaymaniyah, 30 in Erbil, 5 in Dohuk, 24 in Kirkuk, 28 in Diyala, 31 in Nineveh within the Nineveh People’s Union coalition, and one candidate each in Salah al-Din and Baghdad.
