The Iraqi President and PM meet on Wednesday.
The President of the Republic of Iraq, Dr Abdullatif Jamal Rashid, received Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani at the Presidential Palace in Baghdad on Wednesday, 30 July 2025.
The two sides held discussions on the overall situation in the country, stressing the importance of intensifying efforts to strengthen security and stability, safeguard Iraq’s sovereignty, and support the government in addressing the various challenges facing the region. They also underlined the need for a firm response to all violations that threaten the safety and security of citizens.
The meeting reviewed mechanisms for enhanced cooperation between the Presidency and the Council of Ministers, with the aim of improving institutional performance, advancing key sectors, and raising living standards and public services for citizens.
Outstanding issues between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government were also discussed, with both sides reiterating the importance of resolving them within constitutional and legal frameworks that promote social justice and sustainable development.
Furthermore, the meeting stressed the need to unify political positions and visions among all parties and forces, and to prioritise the national interest above personal or partisan considerations.
Preparations for the forthcoming parliamentary elections were also reviewed. Both sides underscored the importance of preventing the misuse of state resources—both human and material—for electoral purposes, and of prohibiting any attempt to exploit government positions to influence voters’ choices. They emphasised adherence to legal and regulatory frameworks to ensure the transparency and integrity of the democratic process and to bolster public trust in the elections.
