Kurdistan Region, Greece Deputy PMs Stress Boosting Relations

Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, met with Greek Deputy Prime Minister Kostis Hatzidakis on the sidelines of the Delphi International Forum on Friday, 11 April 2025.
The meeting, which was also Dara Rashid, Minister of Planning of the Kurdistan Region, and Daban Shadala, Deputy Head of the Foreign Relations Department of the Kurdistan Regional Government, discussed ways to develop relations between the Kurdistan Region and Greece in the fields of trade, industry, agriculture and tourism.
Both parties highlighted the importance of boosting relations and emphasised collaborative efforts to achieve this goal.
Deputy PM Talabani stated that the Kurdistan Region has tremendous opportunities for economic development and said: "The Kurdistan Regional Government is working with all its might to create a favourable atmosphere for development."
In this regard, he urged the Greek government and investors to invest in these prospects and stated that the Kurdistan Regional Government is ready to provide all types of facilities to Greek investors.
The most recent political and security events in the region were also covered during the discussion. In this context, all sides agreed that the international community should step up its efforts to urge disputing parties to resolve their differences through discussion in order to reduce tensions and maintain stability.

Deputy PM, Greek Defence Minister: Security Cooperation Should Be IncreasedQubad Talabani, the Kurdistan Region's Deputy Prime Minister, met on Friday, 11 April 2025, with Greek Defence Minister Nikos Dendias on the sidelines of the Delphi International Forum to discuss the region's security and stability.
During the meeting, which was attended by Dara Rashid, Minister of Planning of the Kurdistan Region, and Daban Shadala, Deputy Head of the Foreign Relations Department of the Kurdistan Regional Government, they discussed the security and stability situation in the region and ways to fight terrorism. Both sides agreed that the level of security and military cooperation should be increased to maintain stability.
The necessity of improving coordination and collaboration between the military and security establishments of both sides, particularly in the battle against terrorism, was underlined in reference to the Kurdistan Region's relations with Greece.
Another subject covered was the Kurdistan Region's political climate and the attempts to form a new cabinet. The Deputy Prime Minister clarified that excellent progress has been made in this area and that, according to the current understanding between the two sides, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) will continue their negotiations.
"We are optimistic that the two parties will come to a final agreement at the nearest opportunity," he said.
