The Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) has urged political parties, coalitions, and candidates to support the Commission's work and contribute to the success of the elections.
The IHEC stated in a release received by PUKMEDIA: "We urge the political parties, alliances, and candidates involved in the electoral process to support the Commission's work and help ensure the elections' success by adhering to the rules of electoral conduct and the regulations of the electoral campaign system established by the Commission under Electoral Campaign System No. (2) of 2023."
The Commission expresses hope that the election campaigns will refrain from promoting ideas that incite violence, hatred, or abuse towards other candidates and competing parties, both until voting day and the announcement of the final results. The IHEC urges the use of legal methods for submitting complaints and appeals, advising against actions and reactions between competitors.
The statement added: "Any complaints and appeals received will be handled in accordance with the systems and mechanisms established by the Commission, with full neutrality and independence."
The IHEC also urged all participants in the electoral process—including voters, alliances, political parties, candidates, observers, media professionals, and all those involved in electoral matters—to support its work and contribute to efforts aimed at organising and conducting free, fair, and impartial elections that inspire confidence among all.
The Commission affirmed that it operates professionally and neutrally, maintaining equal distance from all parties, to achieve electoral justice and safeguard voters' rights.
On 26th June 2024, the Presidency of the Kurdistan Region issued its fifth decree to set a new date for the Kurdistan Parliamentary elections. This follows four earlier decrees in which the elections were postponed and did not take place on the originally scheduled dates. The President of the Kurdistan Region has now established 20th October 2024 as the date for the elections for the sixth term of the Kurdistan Parliament.
