Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani and British Ambassador to Iraq Stephen Hitchen.
Qubad Talabani, the Kurdistan Region's Deputy Prime Minister, met with British Ambassador to Iraq Stephen Hitchen to discuss Sinjar, the security situation in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, and a number of other issues of mutual interest.
The two sides met in Erbil on Monday, August 5, 2024, according to a statement from the Deputy Prime Minister's office. Daban Shadala, the Deputy Head of the Kurdistan Regional Government's Foreign Relations Office, attended the meeting.
The situation in Sinjar was discussed, with both parties emphasising the urgent need to rebuild and stabilise the region so that internally displaced people (IDPs) can return to their homes without fear or distress.
The Deputy Prime Minister pointed out the importance of involving locals in the process of restoring and rebuilding their communities. He also stressed the need for a comprehensive agreement to be reached in order to maintain stability and facilitate the return of refugees.
In this regard, the Deputy Prime Minister pointed out that the people of the region must be involved in the normalisation and reconstruction of their areas and considered it necessary to reach a comprehensive agreement to maintain stability and ensure the refugees to return.
He explained that they will make every effort to address the issue of Sinjar in a way that is in the interest of the people of the region.
During another segment of the meeting, the two parties deliberated on the most recent political and security advancements in the area. They reached a consensus that the federal government, the Kurdistan Regional Government, and all Iraqi factions should exercise greater sensitivity and collaborate in order to uphold security and stability.
