The Kurdistan Region Security Agency (Asayish) reported the arrest of 21 suspects who were wanted for terrorism. Among them are two high-ranking members of the Islamic State (ISIS), one of whom served as a security official in the so called 'Fallujah province' and the other as an administrative assistant in the so called 'Dijla province'.
In a statement, the Asayish reported that a collaborative operation between the General Directorate of Asayish Operations and the Iraqi National Security Service took place which was the result of extensive surveillance and the sharing of intelligence information over a period of several months. As a result, 21 individuals who were wanted by Iraqi courts for terrorism-related charges were apprehended in Sulaymaniyah province.
As per the statement, the terrorists sought refuge in the Kurdistan Region with the intention of concealing themselves. The terrorists admitted to engaging in a conspiracy and actively taking part in multiple acts of terrorism.
The suspects are presently being sought by the Iraqi courts on Article 4 of terrorism. They have been transferred to the Iraqi National Security Service, as stated in the announcement.
