The leader of the Turkmen Front faction has disclosed the accord between their party and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) to jointly hold administrative roles in Kirkuk. Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) has criticised this action, deeming it unfavourable and unlikely to achieve success.
Arshad Salihi, the leader of the Turkmen Front faction, conveyed a message to the KDP's media on behalf of Hassan Turan, the leader of the Turkmen Front, stating that an agreement had been reached between the two parties.
He said: "Currently, both factions hold four seats collectively. This statement is the formal stance of the Turkmen Front. We also ask the Arab factions in Kirkuk to collaborate with us to distribute the administrative positions."
PUK Spokesperson Saadi Ahmed Pire commented on the KDP's move and said: "Their actions are harmful and will not succeed due to the fact that the PUK holds 6 seats while the KDP only has 2 seats." We are unfamiliar with the concept of 2 seats being more in quantity than 6 seats."
However, a source within the PUK's Leadership Council stated: "Any agreement reached in Kirkuk without the active involvement of the PUK will be ineffective and unsuccessful. Despite the merger of the PUK and the Turkmen Front, we still maintain an advantage of two seats over them. The optimal course of action for us is to consider the proportion and entitlements of each group achieved in the election and to ensure that no community in Kirkuk is disregarded."
