Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), is currently in Baghdad to meet with Iraqi officials and discuss recent political developments, among other issues.
PUK President met with U.S. Ambassador to Iraq
Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), met with Alina Romanowski, the United States (U.S.) Ambassador to Iraq, in Baghdad.
During the discussion of the latest developments in politics, economy, and security, the need for improved coordination and cooperation between political parties and forces was emphasised as a means of addressing issues and maintaining national stability.
They also discussed the disputes between Erbil and Baghdad, the Kurdistan Region's rights and privileges, and the issue of elections. President Bafel stated that the PUK's primary goal from the start was to protect the salaries of employees in the Kurdistan Region and keep them out of political disputes, which were eventually resolved thanks to the combined efforts of the Iraqi prime minister, the Federal Court, and the Kurds' allies.
"Our primary goal is to provide a decent and dignified life for our citizens, and we will make every effort to achieve it," he stated. "All individuals are expected to work together with a common goal in mind and strive towards attaining the highest standards."
Regarding the Kurdistan Region elections, President Bafel stated: "We acknowledge and respect the decisions made, and we are committed to ensuring that the elections take place as planned." Our goal is to conduct the process in a transparent manner, ensuring that all parties' desires are accurately represented."

Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), met with Iraqi President Abdullatif Jamal Rashid in Baghdad.
The participants engaged in a comprehensive discussion regarding the most recent advancements in the areas of politics, security, and economics at the national level. Both parties expressed a strong desire for a radical resolution to the challenges confronting the political process and governance in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. Furthermore, continued understanding and collaboration among political factions were regarded as crucial elements for maintaining stability and promoting peace during the execution of the service programme.
President Bafel expressed gratitude to President Rashid for his ongoing efforts to foster stronger relations between the parties and address the salary disputes between Erbil and Baghdad in accordance with the applicable constitution and regulations. He stressed the PUK's commitment to taking whatever necessary action to protect national rights and enhance the Kurdistan Region's structure, with a primary focus on serving the public interest and the people.
The importance of supporting government initiatives to implement service programmes and improve people's livelihoods was also emphasised during the meeting. Moreover, it emphasised how important it is for all communities and nations to sincerely collaborate. They further emphasised that the best political strategy for overcoming barriers to the nation's progress is to maintain constant communication between all parties.
