DPM, U.S. Delegation, Emphasize Enhancing Kurdistan's State of Freedom of Speech

DPM meets a senior U.S. delegation
Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani met with Acting Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland and discussed several topics of mutual interest.
U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Alina Romanowski, U.S. Consul General in the Kurdistan Region Mark Stroh, Peshmerga Minister Shorsh Ismail, Planning Minister Dara Rashid, and Deputy Head of the Kurdistan Regional Government's Foreign Relations Department Daban Shadala attended the meeting in Erbil.
The meeting entailed a discussion on the conductof the Iraqi provincial council elections, with the U.S. delegation extending their congratulations for the elections' success. Talabani hoped that the election outcomes would lead to a transformation in the governance of Kirkuk, ensuring the elimination of marginalization and discrimination. He emphasized the importance of serving all communities fairly and equitably in the upcoming administration.
Another section of the meeting focused on the current political and security situation in Iraq. On the importance of maintaining political and security stability, both parties came to an agreement that all parties must be involved.
The Kurdistan Region's state of freedom and civil society was also a subject of discussion. Both parties emphasized the significance of enhancing the state of freedom of speech and bolstering civilsociety in Kurdistan. Talabani highlighted the importance of strengthening civil society to foster the advancement of democracy and the enhancement of human rights in the Kurdistan Region.
Regarding the role of the United States and its allies in Iraq, both parties concurred that the allies must remain and enhance their preparedness in all areas to ensure political and security stability in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
