A Responsible Step Toward Serving the People and Protecting the Public Interest
Over the past several years, Kurdish society has faced deep and complex transformations: political changes, financial crises, shortcomings in public services, youth unemployment, and a weakening of public trust in the political system. In such a context, one of the most important responsibilities of historic political parties is their ability to renew themselves in line with the demands of the era and to rediscover paths of cooperation and political partnership.
The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, as one of the principal political pillars of the Kurdistan Region, has always presented itself as a party that stands between the people and power. The intellectual and political foundations of the PUK are rooted in social justice, the protection of rights, and serving the vulnerable segments of society. Therefore, every step the party takes must be measured against the interests of the people and the future of Kurdistan.
From this perspective, political agreement and rapprochement with the New Generation Movement can be viewed as a wise and responsible step. With its reformist discourse, its opposition to corruption, and its demand for transparency in governance and public finance, the New Generation Movement has become a strong voice for an important segment of society—particularly young people and those who feel marginalised and politically ineffective.
From the PUK’s point of view, this agreement is not merely a tactical alliance, but an effort to establish a new foundation for political action and public service. Combining the PUK’s historical experience with new ideas and the demands of a new generation can lead to a more realistic programme for addressing people’s problems—from improving basic public services and securing salaries and employment, to strengthening institutions and protecting legal and national rights.
At the societal level, this agreement can serve as a new catalyst for rebuilding trust between citizens and political parties. When people see that the PUK is prepared to listen to voices of dissatisfaction and calls for reform, a stronger sense of partnership and political participation emerges. This, in turn, directly serves the broader population of Kurdistan, as a political system grounded in public trust is better equipped to confront crises.
In conclusion, the PUK believes that serving the people requires unity, dialogue, and collective effort—not merely political competition. If the agreement between the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and the New Generation Movement continues on the basis of transparency, responsibility, and the public interest, it can become a model for a service-oriented politics—one in which the people stand at the forefront of every decision.
